Administration
Michael Stanley
I am a native of Virginia, but Montana has been my home since 1999. I began working for the department near the end of 2000 and in 2004 I applied for a sworn position and began a very challenging, but equally rewarding journey that continues today. I hold several law enforcement instructor certifications and thoroughly enjoy teaching and learning new skills. I have served my community in many roles within the agency including parking enforcement officer, patrol officer, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, operations lieutenant, parking manager, and assistant chief of police. I believe in the mission of Montana State University and the role my agency plays in support of that mission. My hobbies include mountain biking, backpacking, scuba diving, fishing, metal working and travel.

Investigations
Lieutenant Perry
I started my law enforcement career in 1988 and spent 31+ years policing in a major metropolitan area outside of Montana. I worked a variety of positions including patrol, community outreach, gang and violent crime suppression, and homicide investigations. I honorably retired in 2019 and moved to Bozeman where I proudly joined the Montana State University Police Department and look forward to a mutually enriching career serving the MSU community. In my off time, I enjoy outdoor activities, and time with family and friends. Go Cats!

Lieutenant Luhrsen
I began my law enforcement career as a deputy sheriff for the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office in 1999. After several tours of duty for the Montana Army National Guard, I left law enforcement for several active duty assignments and have recently returned. I am excited to work at my alma mater from which I graduated in 1995 with a BS in Physical Education. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Business and Organizational Security Management and a Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. I still serve in the Montana Army National Guard and am proud of the 30 years of service I have given to this great state and the United States of America. In my spare time, I enjoy skiing, fishing, hunting, and attending various levels of sporting events in and out of the state.

I started my law enforcement career right here in Bozeman with the Montana State University Police Department in 2013. In my spare time I enjoy hunting, fishing, traveling, hiking, jet skiing, and many other outdoor pursuits.

I worked 25 years with the Bozeman Police Department where I served as a Detective, Field Training Officer, T.A.S.E.R. Instructor and Motorcycle Officer. I retired from there in 2010 to join the Montana State University Police Department. I joined the Adopt-a-Cop program immediately because I believe in the concept of promoting positive relationships between the police and students. I am still a Taser Instructor and enjoy teaching. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree. In my off hours I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, camping, sports, movies and working with youth. I look forward to many more years of service with the University Police.

My wife and I first visited Bozeman in 2010 and determined this is where we would like to raise our family, so we kept coming back each year to visit until I retired from the Norfolk Police Department in Virginia after 22 years of service. I then began my second career here at Montana State University (MSU) on August 1, 2018. Over the years I have worked in various law enforcement capacities and enjoy serving my community. In my time here at MSU, I quickly learned how special Montana State University is and I am proud to be a part of this organization.
